George will start the American Grand Prix from P4 after a series of grid penalties.

In the final practice session of the weekend, George used the hour to focus on Soft tyre running.

Putting in a 2.12.456 on his initial run, the Brit significantly improved to slot into P6 with a 1.38.354.

George amassed 21 laps of the 5.5km circuit to end FP3 in P7 ahead of the afternoon’s all-important qualifying.

In Q1, George steadily joined the track to put in his first run and take him into P5. Despite improvements from the rest of the field, George remained in the top 10, securing his spot into Q2.

For Q2, the Brit delivered a superb first run to take him to the top of the timings but was quickly dropped down into P4 where he ended the session, clinching a spot in the pole position shootout.

In the final qualifying session, George placed into P6 early in the session. The Brit delivered his best lap time of the day with a 1.34.988 but ended the day still in P6.

Due to grid penalties for drivers ahead, George will line up in P4 on the grid for the American Grand Prix.

George Russell – Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One™ Team

It has been a difficult weekend for me, and I was off the pace in all the other sessions, so I'm pleased to be in a more normal position for qualifying. Six-tenths to pole is a smaller gap than usual for us on Saturday, and we did bring some updates here which are working, so I'm excited to see what happens tomorrow. It will be a race of high tyre degradation and a lot of different strategic options in play, and I think the race will be won and lost in the choices we make - we will need to be dynamic in how we react. Ferrari looked strong yesterday and I think we looked reasonable to them and Red Bull on the long runs, so I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do from the second row.
